David Crockett's Office Replica & Museum

About

He may be best remembered as a frontiersman, but David Crockett was also a public servant who started his political career in Lawrence County.

One block south of the Lawrenceburg Square is a furnished replica of Crockett’s office when he served as a magistrate and member of the Lawrence County Court, the county’s ruling body. This came with the power to marry people, swear out arrest warrants, settle disputes, and act as judge in civil and criminal cases.

During that time he was also elected Colonel of the local militia, a precursor to the National Guard and was referred to the rest of his life as Colonel Crockett. Shortly before his Shoal Creek businesses were destroyed by a “spring freshet,” he was elected to represent Lawrence County in the Tennessee Legislature. Seasonal hours.
